In five minor league seasons, Ángel Fermín led his league in offensive departments two years.

Fermín signed with the New York Yankees in 2003 and debuted for the DSL Yankees that year, hitting .214. In 2004, he batted .211 for the club but belted nine home runs to tie for the Dominican Summer League lead. He had his big year with the 2005 GCL Yankees, producing at a .305/.360/.526 rate. He led the Gulf Coast League with 17 doubles and 23 extra-base hits (tied with Eduardo Perez). He also led GCL first basemen in assists (31), errors (9) and double plays (39).

Ángel slumped to .222/.330/.333 for the 2006 GCL Yankees and .194/.298/.288 for the 2007 Hudson Valley Renegades.
