  As part of a 3-team trade, traded Jim Dwyer to the Chicago Cubs. Received a player to be named later from the Kansas City Royals. In addition, the Chicago Cubs sent Pete LaCock to the Kansas City Royals. The Kansas City Royals sent Sheldon Mallory (December 13, 1976) to the New York Mets to complete the trade.

  Traded Leon Brown and Brock Pemberton to the St. Louis Cardinals. Received Ed Kurpiel (minors).

• December 26, 1976

  Signed Scott Holman as an amateur free agent.

• February 7, 1977

  Traded Richard Sander (minors) and Hank Webb to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Received Rick Auerbach.

• February 25, 1977

  Purchased Luis Alvarado from the Detroit Tigers.

  Traded Benny Ayala to the St. Louis Cardinals. Received Doug Clarey.
