Biographical Information

Outfielder Zoilo Almonte reached the majors with the New York Yankees in 2013.

Signed by scouts Carlos Rios and Ramon Valdivia as a 16-year-old in 2005, Almonte made his pro debut in the Dominican Summer League the following year. He came to the United States in 2007 and spent two summers with the GCL Yankees. He began 2013 at the Triple A level with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders and was called up to the majors in June. He made his big league debut on June 19th as a pinch hitter against the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the following night, he got his first hit, a single off Kyle Farnsworth of the Tampa Bay Rays. He hit his first career home run on May 21st, against Roberto Hernandez of the Rays, part of a 3-for-4 evening, and followed that with a 3-RBI game the following day. He finished the season with a .236 average in 34 games. He spent most of 2014 in the minor leagues, and in 13 games in New York hit only .139. After the season, playing for Aguilas Cibaenas of the Dominican League, he hit .338/.395/.475, finishing behind Cristhian Adames for the batting title. He changed major league teams that winter, signing as a free agent with the Atlanta Braves on November 10th.

From 2018 to 2019, Almonte played for the Chunichi Dragons in Nippon Professional Baseball.
