Biographical Information[edit]
Zdeněk Kocman has been on the Czech national team.
Kocman had a 7.71 ERA in limited time for Olympia Blansko in 2000. In 2001, he was 4-2 with a 6.46 ERA and a save and hit .377/.431/.509. During 2002, he had a 3-2, 2.36 record and hit .256/.359/.333. He finished 7th in the Extraliga in ERA, between Michal Kočí and Petr Minařík. In 2003, he was 4-2 with a 3.01 ERA and hit .188/.350/.219. The teenager made the Czech roster for the 2003 European Championship but did not get into a game.
The right-hander was 6-3 with a save and a 1.06 ERA in 2004 on a team that otherwise was 6-15; he had a 731 OPS. He led the Extraliga with 7 complete games and 76 1/3 IP, tied for second in wins (one behind Daniel Page), was 4th in whiffs (between Pavel Procházka and Jakub Vančura) and 6th in ERA (between Minařík and Procházka). In 2005, he was 3-8 with a save despite a 2.53 ERA, again plagued by poor support; he hit .200/.244/.213. He tied for the Extraliga lead in losses despite just missing the top 10 in ERA (he was 11th; future minor leaguer Jan Řeháček was 10th). He was 1-0 with a 6.75 ERA in three outings for the Czech team in the 2005 European Championship, tying Minařík and Radek Procházka for the highest ERA on the team; his win came against Croatia and Erik Vardijan.
During 2006, Kocman had a 2.13 ERA but was 3-5. He was third in innings pitched (84 2/3) and 7th in strikeouts (55, between Marian Gajdoš and Daniel Mráz). Through 2006, his career record was 24-22 with a 2.75 ERA. He was 9th in the Extraliga in ERA for the period 1995-2006, between Radek Procházka and Kočí. In 2007, he was 3-5 with a save and a 3.90 ERA between Blansko and Draci Brno; he tied Boris Bokaj for 5th in the league in strikeouts (56).
Back with Blansko for all of 2008, he had a 1-7, 4.10, tied for second in the league in losses and hitting .268/.373/.282. In early 2009, though, he was suspended for a positive test for amphetamines and banned for two years. He has not appeared in the Extraliga since (through 2014) though he had played in lower levels of Czech baseball.
