Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Zach Reks made his major league debut as the starting left fielder for the Los Angeles Dodgers against the San Diego Padres on June 21, 2021, going 0 for 2 before giving way to P Phil Bickford as part of a double switch. In getting the start in the outfield, he belied the almost universal trend of recent players being named Zach or Zack all being pitchers.

He was drafted by the Dodgers out of the University of Kentucky in the 10th round of the 2017 amateur draft after having been a walk-on for the school's baseball team. Before that, he had been at the United States Air Force Academy and played one season there. He only missed by a matter of days having the honor of being the first alumnus from the school to reach the big leagues; Griffin Jax beat him to the punch by just two weeks when he made his debut on June 8th. He was signed by prolific Dodgers scout Marty Lamb.
