Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Zack Burdi was the #26 overall pick in the 2016 amateur draft, being taken by the Chicago White Sox in Compensation Round A with a pick obtained after Jeff Samardzija left as a free agent. He was drafted out of the University of Louisville, where he was second in school history with 20 saves.

He made his professional debut in 2016, pitching for four different teams at four different levels that year, all the way from Rookie-class to AAA, as the White Sox clearly wanted to fast-track him to the big leagues. In 26 games, all in relief, he went 1-0, 3.32 with 1 save, striking out 51 batters in 38 innings while allowing just 23 hits. In 2017, his season with the AAA Charlotte Knights was ended by Tommy John surgery in early July after he had gone 0-4, 4.05 in 29 games, with 7 saves. He pitched 33 1/3 innings, he allowed 30 hits and struck out 51 opponents. The injury set him back in 2018 as well, as he was limited to 7 games with the AZL White Sox, on a rehabilitation assignment. He did have a significant highlight on August 13th, when he combined with teammates Brayan Herrera and Mauricio Cabrera to pitch a 3-1 seven-inning no-hitter against the AZL Brewers; he pitched a perfect 6th inning in the game.

He is the brother of major league P Nick Burdi.
