Biographical information[edit]

Catcher Zach Aakhus played for the Windy City ThunderBolts of the independent Frontier League from 2009 to 2013.

After going to high school at Centennial High School in Bakersfield, California, Aakhus attended Northwest Nazarene University, where as a junior, he hit .341 with 7 home runs. In his senior year, he posted a .387 average, set a school record with 16 home runs, and was named to the All-Great Northwest Athletic Conference team.

Aakhus was drafted by the ThunderBolts in 2009, hitting .286/.377/.438 in 39 games that year. The following season, he hit .330/.417/.449 to lead the circuit in average by 7 points. He failed to make the Frontier League All-Star team as harder-hitting Charlie Lisk was picked at catcher. He hit .311/.394/.412 with 64 RBI in 89 games for the club in 2011. However, his average dropped to .234 (with a .321 OBP and just a .311 slugging) in 2012. In 2013, he batted .301/.405/.410 with 6 home runs and 38 RBI in 92 games in his fifth and final year with the club.

He hit .291/.382/.396 in 393 total games.
