Biographical Information[edit]

Yunior Ibarra has played in Cuba and Canada and for the Cuban national team.

Ibarra debuted in 2013-2014 with Sancti Spíritus, hitting only .141/.238/.155 but throwing out 60% of those who tried to steal; he split catching with old-timer Eriel Sánchez. He was only 1 for 5 in 2014-2015 as 39-year-old Sánchez got the bulk of the work. In 2015-2016, he eked out a .118/.250/.147 line while three catchers shared duties. He improved his hitting to .200/.326/.229 in 2016-2017 but was primarily a defensive sub for Sánchez. He picked up more time in 2017-2018, batting .223/.292/.262 and caught 41.7% of runners.

Becoming the starter in 2018-2019, he remained "good glove, no hit" as he put up a .192/.276/.235 batting line and threw out 58.3% of those who ran on him (28 of 48) while fielding .989. He was 0 for 9 with two walks for Cuba in the 2019 Canadian-American Association. Despite his poor offensive performances in Cuba, he was the starter for Cuba in the 2019 Pan American Games ahead of Yosvany Alarcón and Alfredo Fadraga. He was 2 for 10 in the Games, with a solo shot off Team Canada's Jordan Balazovic. He allowed two steals in two tries.
