Yukio Matsunaga pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball and the CPBL for 8 years combined.
Matsunaga was drafted by the Chunichi Dragons in the third round of the 1989 NPB draft, and he had a 11.05 ERA in 9 appearances in his rookie year. His ERA was 4.22 in 7 games in 1991, and he recorded a 3.47 ERA in 19 relief outings in 1992. However, Matsunaga was placed in the NPB Farm Leagues in 1993, and he only pitched 5 games combined in the next two seasons. He had 17 appearances with a 3.19 ERA in 1995, but he only pitched 3 games with the big club in 1996. The Dragons released him, and Matsunaga signed with the Uni-President Lions. He had a 3.43 ERA in 17 games in 1997, then he announced his retirement.
Overall, Matsunaga was 2-3 with a 4.45 ERA, struck out 78 and pitched 115 1/3 innings in 7 years in NPB.
