You Know Me Al
You Know Me Al is a work of fiction by the celebrated American writer, Ring Lardner. Jim Carothers in The New Bill James Historical Abstract opined that it was "the first baseball novel for grown-ups, and still one of the best." Published in 1916, it is composed of letters by Chicago White Sox pitcher Jack O'Keefe. Characteristic of Lardner, it has many grammatical errors, as Jack is supposed to be something of an under-educated rube wide-eyed at the world he discovers through baseball.
