Biographical Information[edit]

Yoshihisa Kondo pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 11 years.

Kondo was drafted by the Hiroshima Carp in the fourth round of the 1988 NPB draft, but he only pitched 6 games with the big club combined in his first two years. He had a 3.14 ERA in 29 appearances in 1991, then his ERA was 4.43 in 15 games in 1992. Kondo broke out in 1993, leading the Central League with 60 appearances and having a 3.09 ERA. He was then used as a swingman in 1994, and he was 11-6 with a 3.54 ERA. He tied Yoichi Okabayashi for 7th in wins. Kondo was 6-4 with a 4.03 ERA in 1995, but he then slumped to 2-3 with a 5.76 ERA in 1996.

The Carp traded him to the Chiba Lotte Marines with Yuji Inoue for nothing after the 1996 season, and Kondo returned to the bullpen again. He had a 4.11 ERA in 45 games in 1997, but his ERA then rose to 5.23 in 26 games in 1998. Kondo had a 4.01 ERA in 27 relief outings in 1999, and he announced his retirement after the 1999 season. He then became a scout of the Carp after retiring.

Overall, Kondo was 30-21 with a 3.92 ERA, struck out 410 and pitched 572 innings in 11 years in NPB.
