First baseman Yordanis Samón debuted for Granma in 2002-2003 and was named Rookie of the Year for the Cuban Serie Nacional. He set a new league record with 36 doubles in 2005-2006.

Yordanis batted .351/.483/.491 in 2007-2008. After that season, his career average was .316 with a .458 slugging percentage. He hit .334/.409/.443 in 2008-2009.
