Biographical Information[edit]

Yohannis Pérez was a shortstop for Matanzas of the Cuban National Series before defecting in or around 2004. In four seasons in Cuba, he hit .271/.342/.349. He fielded .966. Approximately two years after defecting, he signed a free agent contract with the Milwaukee Brewers and spent three seasons in their farm system.

Pérez split 2007 between the Brevard County Manatees (.287/.337/.341 in 62 G) and Huntsville Stars (.195/.260/.237 in 56 G). In 2008, he was primarily with Brevard County (.240/.290/.318 in 106 G, splitting action between 2B and SS), going 0 for 8 with two walks for Huntsville. He ended up in 2009 with Huntsville, fielding .967 as their starting shortstop and putting up a .262/.317/.355 line. Overall, he had hit .245/.301/.314 in three minor league campaigns.
