Biographical Information[edit]
Yasuo Kushihara was a 4th-round draft pick of the Seibu Lions in the 1981 NPB draft. He spent the next couple years in ni-gun, then was sent to the San Jose Bees for seasoning. In 1984, Kushihara was 2-7 with a 4.52 ERA for San Jose. He improved in '85, going 8-13 with a 3.33 ERA for a team that otherwise went 46-75. He was fifth in the California League in ERA, struck out 131 in 165 innings and led the loop with 13 complete games. Promoted to Seibu in 1986, Yasuo allowed one run in two innings in his only taste of Nippon Pro Baseball. After a couple more years at ni-gun, he retired after 1989 and worked thereafer at Seibu Amusement Park.
