Biographical Information[edit]
Yasuhiro Sato was an Olympic Bronze Medalist.
Sato threw a no-hitter in college. [1] He played for Prince Hotel in the industrial leagues after college. He was with Japan for the 1992 Olympics. In his first game, he relieved Katsumi Watanabe in the 6th with a 4-1 deficit against Gold Medal-bound Cuba and went the final four innings, giving up 7 hits (including a homer by Omar Linares), two walks and four runs (all earned). Against Team USA, he relieved Watanabe in the 4th and worked 1 1/3 innings (2 H, 0 R, 1 K) before Masanori Sugiura closed it out and got the win. [2] He was named Best Pitcher of the 1996 Haarlem Baseball Week, directly preceding Jose Contreras and Mark Prior in taking that honor. [3] He later coached for Soka University. [4]
