Yasmani Hernández debuted in the Cuban Serie Nacional with the Naranjas de Villa Clara in 2009-2010. He had a fine rookie season, going 7-5 with a save and a 3.81 ERA. In game one of the finals that year, he got the victory for Villa Clara in relief by shutting down the Industriales Lions' top left-handed bats. Given the start in game three, he bombed, allowing hits to the first four batters before leaving; he was charged with four runs while retiring none.
