Willis Praull was a star pitcher at his champion San Diego high school baseball team. In 1923, he played D-leval ball with the Norfolk Elk Horns, pitching 19 games (123 innings) with a 5-9 record. In 1924, he moved up to A-level ball with Lincoln Links with a 2-4 record. He later played in the Pacific Coast League with the 1927 Hollywood Stars, going 0-1 in 10 games (18 innings).
