Biographical Information

Willie Broughton was a cousin of major leaguer Joe Cannon. He spent one fine summer in the San Francisco Giants chain, hitting .280/.492/.397 with 102 walks and 16 steals in 83 games for the Quincy Giants. He fielded .899 in 70 games at 3B and .948 in 16 at 2B. He led the Midwest League in walks, 7 ahead of Gerald Lorek, and he had the best OBP of anyone with 300 or more plate appearances. In the Giants chain, he was 3rd in walks. His obituary says he also played in the Negro Leagues.
