Biographical Information[edit]
William Shuttleworth is a member of the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame (inducted in 2016).
Shuttleworth has been called the Father of Canadian Baseball for his early work in establishing the game in Canada. He organized the Young Canadians of Hamilton in 1854, Canada's first formal team. He was a player and president of the team from 1860-1871. In 1860, he helped change the Young Canadians from Canada's old rules (11 players per team, two innings) to the standard ones. He was vice president of the first Canadian baseball organization, formed in 1864. He also was an umpire.
