Biographical Information[edit]

William Gallagher played 14 games at shortstop for the Philadelphia Phillies in 1896, a team which had some big names on it - the 38-year-old Dan Brouthers, the 36-year-old Sam Thompson, the 28-year-old Ed Delahanty and rookie Nap Lajoie. Gallagher himself was 22 years old, and hit reasonably well, putting up a batting line of .306/.433/.347.
