William B. Mead was an author who wrote numerous books, including Even the Browns: Baseball During World War II, Low and Outside, Baseball: The Presidents' Game (with Paul Dickson), Two Spectacular Seasons: 1930: The Year the Hitters Ran Wild/1968: The Year the Pitchers Took Revenge, The Official New York Yankees Hater's Handbook, Baseball Goes to War, The Inside Game and The 10 Worst Years of Baseball: The Zany, True Story of Baseball in the Forties.
He served in the United States Army.
