Biographical Information[edit]
Wilfredo Ledezma holds one very obscure all-time record: the most consecutive starts of six innings or fewer: Ledezma pitched seven innings in his second career start in 2003 for the Detroit Tigers. At the end of the 2006 season, he had made 31 straight starts with six or fewer innings. The previous record had been 28, by Scott Elarton.
Apart from his first four seasons with Detroit, when he was used as a swingman, he was normally a reliever in the majors, making a total of 192 appearances. He first joined the Tigers after having been taken from the Boston Red Sox in the 2002 Rule V Draft, and had more games and innings with the Tigers than with any other team. He moved frequently after the Tigers traded him to the Atlanta Braves in return for Macay McBride during the 2007 season. He also pitched for the San Diego Padres that summer, and appeared for another four teams from 2008 to 2011. He went 15-18 for Detroit, and 0-7 for his other six teams.
The highlight of his career was pitching twice against the St. Louis Cardinals during the 2006 World Series. he gave up two hits but no runs in 1 1/3 innings. Earlier during that postseason, he was the winner of Game 4 of the ALCS against the Oakland Athletics on October 14th. He completed the 8th inning and pitched the top of the 9th with the score tied 3-3 before Magglio Ordonez hit a three-run walk-off homer off Huston Street in the bottom of the 9th, sending the Tigers on their way to the Fall Classic.
