Biographical Information[edit]
Whitey Campbell was a college coach.
Campbell was a three-sport star at Miami, scoring 1,076 points in basketball (the first 1,000-point scorer in team annals) and serving as team captain. He was a fullback and defensive back in football and also played baseball (.412 batting average as a sophomore, .428 as a senior). He then coached at the high school and college level, including being head baseball coach at Miami from 1958 and again from 1960-1962. He was 69-36-3 in that role. He later was an assistant football coach at several schools and was special teams coach for the New Orleans Saints in the late 1970s. In 1970, the University of Miami inducted him into their Sports Hall of Fame.
