When It Was a Game
When It Was a Game is a 1991 HBO documentary that featured 16 millimeter films, much of which taken by fans, between 1934 and 1957. When It Was a Game is remembered for its vivid color images from the era when Major League Baseball only extended as far west as the Mississippi River. It was narrated by Peter Kessler, who later appeared on The Golf Channel.
A second and third version were released in 1992 and 2000, respectively. The latter version featured pictures from 1957 to 1968.
