Biographical Information[edit]
Wes Bankston was signed by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and scout Milt Hill as the 4th round pick in the 2002 amateur draft. He made his major league debut with the Oakland Athletics in 2008. In his first taste of The Show, he went 10 for 34 (.294), hitting his first home run on July 7 against the Seattle Mariners, but was sent down on July 11, caught in a numbers crunch. He came right back to Oakland, as starting first baseman Daric Barton suffered a freak injury to his neck while swimming during the All-Star break, landing him on the disabled list and opening a spot. Wes made his final big league appearance on July 30 and was designated for assignment on August 18.
