Biographical Information[edit]
Wayne Huizenga was the first owner of the expansion Florida Marlins. He made his fortune in a wide variety of ventures, but is best known for Blockbuster Video. Under his ownership, the club won the 1997 World Series, but the team was largely dismantled in a fire sale the following year.
After failing to find government funding for a new baseball-only stadium to replace Pro Player Stadium in South Florida, Huizenga sold the team to commodities trader John Henry in 1999.
Huizenga has also held ownership in the NFL's Miami Dolphins and NHL's Florida Panthers.
