Biographical information[edit]
Watch Burnham was the first of three men to manage the Indianapolis Hoosiers in 1887. He was succeeded by Fred Thomas and Horace Fogel. Before that, he had been a regular umpire in the National League in 1883. He umpired one game in both 1886 and 1887, then was a regular umpire again in 1889 and 1895. Altogether, he was an umpire for 107 games.
He is not to be confused with Walt Burnham, a contemporary minor league manager.
