Biographical Information

Pitcher Wascar Serrano had an eventful first game in his only season in the majors. Signed originally by the San Diego Padres in 1997, Serraro made is big league debut on May 12th, 2001 as a fill-in starter replacing Brian Tollberg. Going against the Florida Marlins he pitched well, allowing only 1 earned run in 7 innings. Unfortunately his opposite on the mound, hard-throwing righty A.J. Burnett, tossed a no-hitter as the Marlins prevailed, 3-0.

Serraro made five starts in his initial stay with the Padres, going 2-2 before getting sent down to the Triple A Portland Beavers. He would get 2 more stints with the big club, those times he worked exclusively from the bullpen. Overall his pitching record in 2001 showed a 3-3 record over 46 2/3 innings with a 6.54 ERA. After the season Serraro was part of a six-player trade between the Padres and Seattle Mariners. He spent one year at the Mariners Triple A affiliate, the Tacoma Rainiers, before being granted free agency at end of the 2002 season. Serraro bounced around a couple other minor leagues before being done with professional baseball by age 27.
