The team moved to the National League as the American Association folded, and Fitzgerald pitched the next year for the 1892 Louisville Colonels, which did about as well as the previous team. Pitchers such as Fitzgerald, Jouett Meekin, and Scott Stratton returned to the team. Fitzgerald pitched in only 4 games, suffering 45 hits and 11 walks in 34 innings, and posting a record of 1-3.
