Biographical Information[edit]
Infielder Walter Plant played minor league ball for two years before World War II. He split 1941 between the Greenville Lions (.236/?/.326 in 37 G, .847 FLD at 3B) and Paducah Indians (.198/?/.276 in 34 G, .886 FLD at SS). In 1942, he hit .243 and slugged .313 for the La Crosse Blackhawks while fielding .910 at second base. He then went on to serve in the Army, but due to injuries he sustained in the Pacific Theatre, he was unable to return to baseball after the war. He later was a teacher for many years, first in Chicago, and later in Connecticut. He spent his last 20 years in the science department at Rippowam High School. He died in 2012 at age 91.
