Biographical Information[edit]
Outfielder Walter Menke played in the minor leagues from 1936 to 1938. With the Des Moines Demons in 1936, he hit .272 with seven home runs in 123 games. He hit .293 with a dinger in 85 games for Des Moines in 1937 to earn Western League All-Star honors. He wrapped up his career by hitting .307 with three home runs in 97 games for the Springfield Browns in 1938. Overall, he batted .288 with 11 home runs in 305 games.
His brother, John Menke, played in the Western League in 1937. His son, Alan Menke, played in the Minnesota Twins organization from 1962 to 1964. His other son, Denis Menke, played in the major leagues from 1962 to 1974.
