Biographical information[edit]
Walt Krueger was a minor league second baseman who played for 16 seasons, from 1915 to 1931, save for 1918. He batted over .300 eight times, with a career high of .329 with the Quincy Red Birds in 1927. His best campaign, however, was likely 1925, when he hit .307 with 192 hits, 43 doubles, 10 triples and 261 total bases in 157 games for the Lincoln Links. His statistical record is incomplete, however it is known that he had 1,958 hits in 6,772 career at-bats, for a .289 batting average.
He was one of three managers for the Muskogee Athletics of the Western Association in 1926, their final season. The other two team managers that season were Connie Fields and George Armstrong. The Athletics folded before the season ended, on July 20.
Krueger managed future Hall of Famer Bill Dickey. For many years, he was erroneously listed as "Butch Kreuger." It was thought these were two distinct individuals, however, his Sporting News contract card verifies they were one-and-the-same.[1]
His birthyear has also been listed as 1895.[2]
