Biographical Information[edit]

First baseman Vinnie Degifico played in the Boston Red Sox system from 1987 to 1991. He was taken by the club in the 17th round of the 1987 amateur draft. He had hit .526 in 1986, best among all college hitters and he was named the Division III All-American DH in 1987.

His breakout season was 1989, when he hit .300/.395/.496 with 17 home runs and 60 RBI in 115 games between the Lynchburg Red Sox and Winter Haven Red Sox. He hit below .250 the next two years and was out of baseball after 1991.

Overall, he hit .257/.353/.369 with 32 home runs and 183 RBI in 466 games. Beginning in 1994, he was an assistant coach at his alma mater, until about 2019. He died after a battle with cancer.
