After a 36-year absence, professional baseball returned to Vincennes, IN in 1950 with the Vincennes Citizens of the Mississippi-Ohio Valley League. Not affiliated with any major-league team (only one team in the MOVL was), the Citizens finished 7th of 8 teams with a 43-76 record. Attendance was the lowest in the loop (18,977 fans). Managed by Melvin Ivy until June 19 and Andy E. Smith thereafter, the club was led by future big-league 1B Roy Hawes (.328/~.395/.538, in the top 5 or 10 in average, third in the league with 13 homers and second with 228 total bases. Hawes also had 30 doubles, 10 triples and 27 steals). The next season they were renamed the Vincennes Velvet.
