Biographical Information[edit]
The son of Cookie Rojas and brother of Mike Rojas, Victor Rojas played in the minor leagues in the California Angels system in 1990, when he pitched for the AZL Angels. In 1994, he resurfaced as a position player with the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings of the independent Texas-Louisiana League.
After retiring as a player, he spent 2003 as an Arizona Diamondbacks radio broadcaster and moved on to the Texas Rangers in 2004. He was much-loved by Ranger fans, and is known for his Home Run call: "Big Fly!" Rojas was then a host for MLB Network. He became an announcer for the Los Angeles Angels from 2010-2020, teaming for many years with Mark Gubicza. He interviewed for the Angels' vacant GM position in the off-season after the 2020 campaign, a job that ultimately went to Perry Minasian. He then announced he was leaving the Angels "in order to spend more time with the family in Texas, continue to build our apparel business, await the birth of our [first] grandchild and prepare for my next venture." That next venture turned out to be the GM position for the Frisco RoughRiders, a mere 1/2 hour from his off-season home.
Rojas called the 2024 College Station Super Regional for ESPN. In August of that year he was named assistant head coach at Ottawa University Arizona.
Rojas' son, Tyler, plays baseball (as of 2024) for Johnson University [1].
