Victor Mendez was picked by the Kansas City Royals in the 20th round of the 1976 amateur draft. Assigned to the GCL Royals, he was 1 for 16 with a double, walk, 3 strikeouts, run and 3 RBI. He had two errors in twelve chances at shortstop. As such, he at least had one more hit than the next Victor Mendez to play in the minors.
