Biographical Information[edit]
Victor Gonzalez had a terrific rookie year with the Los Angeles Dodgers at age 24 in 2020, pitching 20 1/3 innings mostly in relief with an ERA of 1.33 and a WHIP of 0.738.
Gonzalez, born in Mexico, was signed by the Dodgers as a free agent at the age of 16. The next year, he began pitching in the minors, and slowly worked his way up the system. From 2013-2018, he pitched in the rookie leagues and A ball, not coming to A+ ball until 2019, and pitching well in 8 games for the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. He was promoted to the AA level and posted a 2.23 ERA in 15 games, which got him a promotion to AAA, where he had a 3.86 ERA in 15 games. He was then added to the major league roster in the off-season.
Victor gave up a run in his first major league relief appearance on July 31st, but ended up giving up only 3 runs total in his 15 major league appearances during the regular season. A left-hander, he gave up only 2 walks while notching 23 strikeouts.
