Biographical Information[edit]
Vern "Lefty" Hughes pitched three games for the 1914 Baltimore Terrapins of the 1914 Federal League, posting a reasonably good ERA of 3.18 (the team ERA was 3.13). All three of his appearances were in games that the Terrapins lost, with the first two being in July and the last in September. Vern was the youngest player on the team; he was 21, while the team's average age was 30.
