Biographical Information

Minor league infielder Victor Diaz is the father of 2000s major league outfielder Víctor Díaz. He played for the Dominican national team in 1970, the same year he joined the St. Louis Cardinals organization. He was with the team for the 1970 Central American and Caribbean Games, where the Dominican team took the silver medal behind Cuba.

He played from 1970 to 1972. he started off his career with the GCL Cardinals and the St. Petersburg Cardinals, playing a total of 95 games between the two teams and hitting .216 with no homers and 19 RBIs. he played second base almost exclusively that first season. In 1971, he was sent to the Lewiston Broncs of the Northwest League where he hit .299 in 72 games with his only professional homer and 22 RBIs. He was used at three positions for almost equal amounts - second base, third base and catcher - and also saw some action at shortstop while pitching a third of an inning as well. In 1972, he played 80 games with the Cedar Rapids Cardinals of the Midwest League, hitting .259 and driving in 17 runs. He split his time between shortstop and second base, and this time made three pitching appearances, with an ERA of 3.00 in 12 innings. He did not return in 1973.
