I'd expand the Table of Contents a bit - maybe add the AAGPBL or some other topics. Who would pick the featured article and today's news and how often would the featured article change? Overall, I like the setup. - --Mischa 03:08, 7 May 2006 (EDT)
Added a few new categories, what else should be added? The Featured Article would change weekly, have to be nominated on a nomination page and fulfill certain criteria (with respect to length, style, accuracy, neutrality, etc.). It would have to be voted upon and approved. Today's News would only be editable by an admin and cover "big" events. --MichaelEng 10:48, 7 May 2006 (EDT)
I really like it. I enjoy the Wikipedia main page, in part because the teasers there encourage me to look at articles that I might never see otherwise. I think that it would be a great idea to give the Bullpen page a similar look. --Roger 21:13, 18 May 2006 (EDT)
I like the new look a lot. -Chisoxfan 18:41, 1 Jun 2006 (EDT)
Sean mentioned on the BR-Bullpen list that he's doing a SABR presentation in late June. I inquired about having the new main page up by then and he liked the idea. Michael, do you think now would be a good time to switch over? Some candidates for the what's new section - Jimmy Claxton, Reggie Otero, Masahiro Yamamoto, Teo Acosta, Venezuelan League. - --Mischa 19:50, 7 Jun 2006 (EDT)
Sure, how doing a test switchover some time this weekend. Mischa, you can do the What's New? section. The only thing is that we to come up with a list of featured articles (a month's worth?) with intros, pictures and a final cleanup. Possiblities are here. --MichaelEng 18:31, 9 Jun 2006 (EDT)
I like the new design. It's much better than the current one. How long do you plan to keep the featured articles for ? I would suggest a week at a minimum, especially as we don't have that many candidates for the job right now... It would be nice to start with Charlie Metro if we launch it at the SABR convention, given Charlie is a member of SABR (not sure if he'll be in Seattle though). --Philippe 05:34, 10 Jun 2006 (EDT)
I like Metro as a start too. A week for the featured articles sounds good - I think we can produce enough material to maintain that kind of pace. - --Mischa 06:44, 11 Jun 2006 (EDT)
How's this for the What's New section...Did you know ...that Jimmy Claxton was the first black player featured on a baseball card? ...that Reggie Otero led the Canadian-American League in batting average in 1942 and won a record seven titles in the Venezuelan League? ...that Art Shamsky was a roommate of Pete Rose when they were in the New York-Penn League and that Shamsky later homered four times in four at-bats? ...that Negro League catcher Larry Brown routinely got more votes for the East-West Game than players like Josh Gibson, Biz Mackey and Roy Campanella? ...that the 19th Century brought us the first baseball rules and the first professional baseball league? ...that Teo Acosta won five minor league batting titles but never played a day in the major leagues? ...that Masahiro Yamamoto had a chance at becoming the second Japanese player for a US team but decided to return to Japan instead? ...that the Venezuelan League traces its roots to the mid-1940s as one of the oldest winter leagues? - --Mischa 17:38, 11 Jun 2006 (EDT)
I have updated templates and made a small change to What's New/Did You Know. Today in Baseball will take some more time though. --MichaelEng 22:04, 11 Jun 2006 (EDT)
I like the new design, but I'm not sure that the current standings is such a great idea. a)The purpose of BR doesn't seem to be current events so much; anyway their are multiple sites where this information can be had. b)The MLB table causes my browser to scroll left and right at 1024 x 768. IMHO I would move the standings to their respective league pages, perhaps making them portals and hence, making them more interesting than what's there now. Just my two cents...--Shawn 12:17, 13 Jun 2006 (EDT)
Drop the current standings[edit]
I tend to agree that the current standings don't fit that well and probably are a time drain that we don't need. If you want a general index template, I think that might work better.
Why don't you move it over sometime this weekend.--Admin 13:49, 13 Jun 2006 (EDT)
Removed the standings from the main page (moved to a link under current events unless anyone objects). Moved old redesign page to Main Page Redesign Archive 1. I have another design with separated boxes Main Page Redesign 2 (two-tone). A third with four colors (Main Page Redesign 3) and a fourth with six colors (Main Page Redesign 4). I got the colors from here at wikipedia. Should any of the colors be changed? Also, in designs 2-4 the middle two boxes are shifted left one pixel, I don't know why. --MichaelEng 20:09, 13 Jun 2006 (EDT)
