Biographical Information[edit]
Emory Wilbur "Ty" Helfrich was, like so many other ballplayers, saddled with the nickname "Ty". He played for the 1915 Brooklyn Tip-Tops and appeared in 43 games.
Helfrich was born, and died, in Pleasantville, NJ, in southeastern New Jersey near Atlantic City, NJ. He attended Atlantic City High School and then went to Pennsylvania for college at Lafayette College, 130 miles from Pleasantville. He was at Lafayette during 1910-15 and came out to make his major league debut at the end of June 1915.
After his year in the majors he played several years in the minors. Thereafter he apparently became a very successful high school coach in the area of his home town.
