Biographical Information[edit]
George "Tug" Wilson played for the Brooklyn Atlantics in the American Association in 1884. Although that was his only playing time in the majors, he played in the minors through 1896 and at one point was purchased by the Indianapolis Hoosiers, in 1889, although he did not appear for them in any game.
Wilson was one of several catchers used by the Atlantics. He also played outfield and some other infield positions for the team. His batting average of .232 was higher than the team average of .225.
He was not called Tug Wilson by the press, but rather George Wilson. However, he is not to be confused with a variety of George Wilsons who played in the minors, not with the later major leaguer George Wilson nor with Les "Tug" Wilson.
