Biographical Information[edit]

Tsuyoshi Uchida has played in Nippon Pro Baseball and the Japanese national team.

Uchida was on the Japanese national team in the 1985 Asian Championship and 1985 Intercontinental Cup. The Chunichi Dragons drafted him in the third round of the 1985 NPB draft.[1] Uchida backed up Takayoshi Nakao in his rookie year and hit .234/.304/.298 in 34 games. The Dragons then traded him to the Hankyu Braves for Yoshihiro Iwamoto after the 1986 season. Uchida replaced Hiromasa Fujita and became the Braves' new starting catcher in 1987. He hit .272/.299/.361 in that season, but slumped to .145/.172/.177 in 1988. The Braves then traded him with Kenji Harada and Takayuki Shirai to Daiei Hawks for Hiromitsu Kadota after the 1988 season. Uchida was the main starting catcher for the Hawks, hitting .259/.324/.346 and .250/.314/.335 respectively in the next two seasons. When prospect Koichiro Yoshinaga broke out in 1991, Uchida lost the starting spot, and his batting line declined to .188/.258/.325. He announced his retirement after going 0-for-13 in the 1992 season. He was a scout for the Yomiuri Giants from 2019 to 2022. [2]

Overall, Uchida had hit .235/.292/.322 in 7 seasons in NPB.
