Biographical Information[edit]

Troy Pickford pitched in the minors and for the Greek national team. He is the brother of Kevin Pickford.

Troy was picked by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 20th round of the 2000 amateur draft and the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 49th round of the 2001 amateur draft (one round after Seth Smith). He signed after the Detroit Tigers chose him in the 8th round of the 2002 amateur draft, one pick before Jeff Salazar. He was 2-0 with a 0.98 ERA in four starts that summer for the Oneonta Tigers.

In 2003, he was 5-7 with a 2.66 ERA for the West Michigan Whitecaps. He joined his brother on the Greek squad (almost entirely Americans of Greek descent; their mother was Greek) for the 2003 European Championship. He worked five innings (4 H, 2 BB, 2 K, 1 R) for the Silver Medalists, turning in a solid start against traditional power Italy. He got a no-decision but Greece won the contest.

Pickford battled elbow injuries in 2004, limiting him to 6 innings (2 H, 0 R, 9 K) for the GCL Tigers and costing him a spot on Greece's team for the 2004 Olympics. He finished his career with a 2.28 ERA in 23 minor league starts.
