Team History[edit]

The Tri-City Chili Peppers play in the Coastal Plain League. The team was meant to play their inaugural season in 2020 but that season was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, so they actually debuted in 2021.

In 2024, they made the news when they announced that on June 1st, they would host a game of "Cosmic Baseball", to be played at night under black lights, using glow-in-the-dark balls, bats, bases, uniforms and so on. This required the installation of 18,500-watt black lights around the field, using brackets to attach them to the normal light poles, at a cost of over $100,000. A number of practices were held to confirm that baseball could be played under such conditions, and that the adjustment required was minimal. their opponents, the Greenbrier Knights of the Tidewater Summer League, were invited to practice with the Chili Peppers in the unusual conditions prior to the game, in order to make it a more fair contest. Tickest for the game sold out in less than 24 hours.
