Biographical information[edit]

Pitcher Trevor McDonald was the 255th and final player to make his debut in the majors during the 2024 season, doing so for the San Francisco Giants against the St. Louis Cardinals on the season's final day, September 29th. He pitched the final three innings of the Giants' 6-1 loss that day and did well, allowing no runs or hits and one walk while picking up one strikeout.

He was originally drafted by the Giants in the 11th round of the 2019 amateur draft, out of a high school in Mississippi. He had only pitched 4 innings in 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic wiped out the 2020 minor league season. After that, he rose slowly through the Giants' system and had only reached Class A by the end of 2023, when he went 3-1, 0.96 for the Eugene Emeralds of the Northwest League but was slowed down by injuries. In 2024, he suffered a pulled groin muscle just as spring training was winding down, but made up for lost time by pitching at four minor league levels, from the Arizona Complex League to the AAA Pacific Coast League, before making his late-season big league debut. Between the four stops, he went 3-7, 4.40 in 23 games - 20 starts - and 86 innings.
