Trevor Grieve

Biographical Information[edit]

Trevor Grieve is a Canadian umpire. He has worked in the South Atlantic League, New York-Penn League, Gulf Coast League and Frontier League. He left the minor leagues in 2004 but continued to work as an amateur umpire after that, also serving as an umpiring supervisor and instructor with Baseball Ontario and Baseball Canada. He has also worked internationally, in the 2010 World Junior Championship and 2013 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers.

He worked games in the 2013 World Baseball Classic, including the finals at AT&T Park in San Francisco, CA as the right field umpire after working first-round games in Taiwan. He worked second-round games of the 2017 World Baseball Classic in Tokyo, Japan and the finals in Los Angeles, USA.

Off the field, starting in 2005, he has worked as an officer with the Toronto Police Service. He explains that he sees similarities between the two roles, including the need to know the rules thoroughly, and the ability to take charge of a situation.

Before becoming an umpire, he won a Gold Medal in swimming at the Ontario University Athletics Conference Championship in 1999.
