Trees Field
Trees Field was home to the Pitt Panthers from 1970 to 2010. It had several quirks:
- A left field fence just 280 feet from home, leaving people to say Pitt would "Live by the wall, die by the wall"
- An infield with Astroturf while the outfield had natural grass
- As the field was used by the marching band and some other sports teams, there were huge divots in the outfield that led to many bad-hop extra-base hits
The field hampered Pitt recruiting even as it helped with home-field advantage as the outfielders were familiar with the bad hops and the pitchers were psychologically used to the close left field wall which would cause visiting hurlers problems. For the 2010-2011 season, Pitt moved into a more modern, standard baseball field.
