Tony Vanderhill
Teunis Vanderhill
Biographical Information[edit]
Catcher Tony Vanderhill played in the minor leagues from 1903 to 1911, hitting .247 with 590 hits in 2,390 at-bats over the course of his nine-year career. He played for the Nevada Lunatics (1903), Webb City Goldbugs (1903), Joplin Miners (1904-1907), Springfield Midgets (1908), Bartlesville Boosters (1909-1910), Falls City Colts (1911) and Muscatine Camels (1911).
He also managed in the minors for a couple seasons, skippering the Springfield Midgets for the latter part of 1908 and the Falls City Colts in 1912.
It appears he was born Teunis Vander Hill, or perhaps even Teunis van den Hil, but his name was anglicized to Tony/Anthony Vanderhill.
Though the Baseball-Reference Register lists his birth year as 1874 and his birth place as Michigan, his The Sporting News contract card lists them as 1879 and Reading, PA, respectively.
