Tonny Verhaert was a member of the Belgian national team for several events. He was 4 for 20 with 5 walks, 5 runs and 3 RBI in the 1995 European Championship. In the 1997 European Championship, he led the event with a .765 average (13 for 17) and 1.294 slugging percentage. He tied Francesco Casolari for 6th with 9 RBI. Tonny was not nearly as sharp as Belgium's DH in the 1999 European Championship, going 4 for 18 with a double, 2 runs and 2 RBI.

In the 2001 European Championship, the veteran went 3 for 14 with a walk, run and RBI. He did throw out both runners who tried stealing against him when he appeared at catcher.
